Though it's a mighty big task to match the simple wonderfulness of Azealia Banks' video for "212," her new Rankin-directed production for "Liquorice" comes pretty damn close. Whereas Banks came onto our radars late last year like a naughty schoolgirl rapping about c*nts in pigtail braids and a Mickey Mouse sweater, "Liquorice" shows a more grown-up side to the MC. Alternately sporting leather ensembles and 70's era Americana cut-offs, Banks looks right out of a Rankin editorial for Dazed & Confused or The Hunger as much as she does a girl in a music video. The whole thing has a cowgirl motif running through (and even includes an Azealia v. Azealia showdown) and, for what it's worth, makes us want to run to our nearest Western store and get a pair of chaps. Enjoy.
P.S. As previously mentioned, Banks has a new mixtape, Fantasea, coming out and includes a recently-released track, "Aquababe," as well as the psych-tropicalia jam "Jumanji."
