The CW's musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is considered low-key the best show on TV right now, despite unfairly low ratings. The plot follows Rachel (the show's creator, Rachel Bloom) an anxious, Ivy League-educated attorney who impulsively moves to California where her ex and his new yogi, fauxhemian girlfriend live.
Each musical number encapsulates some sort of semi-nervous breakdown/overwhelming insecurity Rachel has about her situation that anyone with a soul can relate in the most "Oh, fuck... that's me" sense.
No more apparent than the most recent clip offered up to us, called "I Definitely Have Friends!)"
Rachel's inner child starts off by singing, "I have friends! I definitely have friends! No one can say that, 'I do not have friends!'" while walking down a grade school hallway, desperately handing out party invitations to everyone she sees (who promptly chuck them back at her).
And then I flung my head back, closed my eyes, and screamed, "YESSSSSSSSSS" into the heavens above.Flash-forward to adult Rachel, still handing out flyers to strangers, and nervously assuring herself of being friend-ful.
We get a slew of randos she counts as confidantes......including Paula!...
...and friend from friend from law school...
...and grocery clerk with half an eyelid!
We've all had this dark moment, either on the subway, or examining a container of hummus at Whole Foods."I...I have friends! Yes! I definitely have friends!"
