Upstairs at the Square With Emma Straub + Stephin Merritt at Barnes & Noble
We adore Barnes & Noble's "Upstairs at the Square" series, wherein authors are paired with musicians for a musicaliterary evening of merriment, and tonight's match-up is one of our all-time favorites. Emma Straub, who appeared in our "Twitter Gangs of New York" feature and author of the short story collection Other People We Married, will be reading from her new tome, followed by a performance courtesy of Magnetic Fields-man Stephin Merritt, whose latest record, Love at the Bottom of the Sea, dropped Tuesday.
Barnes & Noble, 33 E. 17th St. 7 p.m. Free.
The Armory Show
It's Art Fair week here in NY, with about a dozen various and sundry fairs popping up left and right. For those feeling overwhelmed, we suggest starting with the biggest and most comprehensive, the Armory Show, with over 120 exhibitors, organized by style and country, and spread out over two piers. This year's fair features a special Scandinavian section.
Pier 92 and Pier 94, Twelfth Ave. and 55th St. 12-8 p.m. $30. Mar. 8-11.
