Bill-Coleman-2010-683x1024.jpgThough most of us know how hectic fashion week is for designers, editors, stylists, models, and buyers, we forget that there are entire symbiotic industries equally as busy -- event publicists, nightlife promoters and, most of all, DJs. After a few spins around the dance floor you might feel like you've seen most of fashion week's familiar faces behind the DJ booth. One person you might have missed is Bill Coleman, the DJ and longtime NYC nightlife guru (he's worked with R.E.M., Lady Gaga, Sinéad O'Connor and En Vogue) who calls the shots when it comes to what you hear inside the tents at Lincoln Center. "I'm programming all the music for the week in addition to DJing," Coleman told us when we caught up with him on the first day of fashion week. "I also selected all the DJs," he added, in reference to the rotating line-up stationed at an elevated DJ booth overlooking the main tent and all of the lounges.

"This was done very last minute," Coleman explains. "It's the first time [fashion week producers] have ever programmed DJs for the week. My idea is to provide an eclectic mix of music and to look at all the designers and get an idea of what may play at their shows and either try to complement it or do the direct opposite." And there may even be a famous face or two in the mix (or, in this case, behind it); we hear Chris Frantz from Tom Tom Club and Talking Heads will be DJing right before Betsey Johnson's show Monday night. So, if you'll be making any stops inside Lincoln Center this week, look up.
