Vice released "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en" back in 2005 as a spoof on the celebrity benefit singles, "Do They Know It's Christmas." According to its creators, the song "[stemmed] from a frustration with other benefit songs' misguided, somewhat patronizing attitude, and Western-centric worldview" but, like "Do They Know It's Christmas," sales were donated to UNICEF. The song features a lot of performers, including Win Butler and Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire, Feist, Beck, Peaches, Buck 65, Karen O, Gino Washington and the late Malcolm McClaren. It's a tongue-in-cheek dig at Western arrogance, as well as our collective mania for this holiday (which, admittedly, we're big fans of), but it's also one of our favorite Halloween jams ever. We want candy, we want candy!
