Painter Lydia Emily and The Karma Underground, a group of politically-minded artists who work on behalf of a variety of different causes, are hosting a charity art show to bring awareness to the persecution of the Tibetan people. Infamous metal band The Melvins are playing tonight at The Double Door so do attend if you're in the mood to head-bang all night long. They band is currently attempting to complete a 51 day tour through 50 states which, if completed successfully, will no doubt be awarded a Guinness World Record. [Flavorpill]

The release party for photographer Bernard Colbert's book Getting Into Face is tonight at Eyeporium Gallery, followed by a lip-synching party at Debonair Social Club. The book features photographs of Sal-E and JoJo Baby -- two drag queens who perform at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco -- that were taken by Colbert over the past five years. [Chicago Reader]
