Gilbert & George "London Pictures" Opens at Lehmann Maupin and Sonnabend Galleries
The iconic art duo, "living sculpture" Gilbert & George, are in town for their first New York gallery show since 2004, which has taken over three-spaces -- Lehmann Maupin's locations in Chelsea and on the Bowery, as well as Sonnabend Gallery. The inspiration for their latest is the London tabloids. Throughout the past several years, they've actually stolen 3,712 newspaper sellers' posters, which appear as the backdrop for the duo's massive self-portraits.
Faile Party at the Wythe Hotel
Another art world duo, Brooklyn-based Faile (comprised of Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller) were recently commissioned by Vice and 42Below to cover the entire facade of 104 N. 7th Street in Williamsburg with hand-painted and sculpted ceramic tiles. To celebrate the (permanent!) public art work, the new Wythe Hotel is hosing a shindig.
The Wythe Hotel, 80 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg, Brooklyn. 8 p.m. RSVP here.
