Crop top ($218)
After debuting a silent short film yesterday that showed the making of his debut Yeezy collection, Kanye's line -- Adidas Originals x Kanye West Yeezy Season 1 -- hits stores today. The collection of athletic-inspired, over-sized sweatshirts, crop tops, accessories and shoes like the Yeezy 950 boots are available at several Barneys locations throughout the U.S. and tastemaking stores across the country like Kith and Opening Ceremony in NYC, RSVP Gallery in Chicago (which is owned by Kanye's long-time art director / style consultant, the designer and DJ Virgil Abloh) and the Webster in Miami. (You can check out a full list of where the collection is available in North America over at GQ.) Sweatshirts are in the $400-$600 range while some of the jackets will throw you back a few grand, prices that, as other outlets are pointing out, contradict Kanye's professed desire to create a more democratic type of high fashion (although he's said that he regrets the high prices of this debut collection). We'll have to wait for the second collection to see if the rapper-designer delivers on that sentiment and finds a way to lower the price points but kudos to him for taking criticism to heart and to be proving his seriousness about fashion and his collection.
In the meantime, considering the fact that a pair of Kanye's rare Nike Air Yeezys sold recently for $75,000, it's a safe bet that if you're able to afford a piece from the collection, it'll become a collector's item for years to come.
Above and below, we've picked out a few of our favorite pieces from the collection.
