The New Museum celebrated their 35th anniversary last night with a gala at Cipriani honoring artist Paul McCarthy, who had his first museum show at the New Museum in 2001. Chloe Sevigny and Nadja Swarovski were honorary chairs, The Pimps of Joytime played and someone bid on, and won, a George Condo portrait of themselves for $350,000 during the live auciton portion of the evening. Other guests included Chuck Close, gala co-chair Olivier Zahm, Gang Gang Dance's Lizzi Bougatsos, artist Spencer Sweeney, Michelle Harper, Leelee Sobieski and Liz Goldwyn among others. Highlight of the night? Seeing street artist Judith Supine's work projected in a 300-foot
long illuminated frieze around the Cipriani's ceiling. Whoa! Above, check out Rebecca Smeyne's photos from the evening.
