Willis Earl Beal Gives Us Surreal, Lo-Fi Vibes with "Flying So Low"

Lo-fi crooner Willis Earl Beal is back to break your heart with his newest song "Flying So Low."

The first single off of his upcoming Nocturnes LP, Beal's forlorn croon gives a whole new dimension to a track that's startling in its stark minimalism, lending it a depth and breadth that's complex and vulnerable. A moody air hangs over the entire track, which truly exudes the surreal, Twin Peaks feel Caitlin White at Stereogum pointed out and is definitely something Audrey Horne could sway along to in the Double R Diner.

And with a feel almost as enigmatic as the definitive answer to "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" Beal murmurs "so low" along with thinly-veiled allusions to his loneliness -- a "solo" lo-fi entity with no place to go. Some dust-colored, Badalamenti vibes, for sure.

Nocturnes is out on August 28th via Tender Loving Empire.
