Our Guide to Memorial Day Weekend in NYC 2015

Who needs to getaway for Memorial Day Weekend when there's a shitton of cool things to do right here in NYC? Because in the extremely unlikely possibility that you ever get tired of day drinking Limearitas on the roof, we've rounded up a whole slew of parties, art shows and more to check out.

With one of the city's best club systems, Slake often plays host to NYC's best DJ nights, including this latest MORE Friday's event, which has brought French-blooded, UK bass-leaning wunderkind Bambounou to the stage. Backing him up are some of techno's finest with the inimitable hardware-heavy South London Ordnance and local man-about-town Huerco S., so get prepared to dance.

It's opening night for the heavily-anticipated S/N exhibit at Chelsea's The Kitchen, which examines the possible breaking points in communication. A show curated by Whitney fellows, it's meant to explore "the complex dynamics of sound" and examine the delicate balance between background and direct noise.

A summer screening of Top Gun, the most homoerotic movie about Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer as airline pilots ever made, at the Intrepid? Talk about good choices for Fleet Week, as well as a great pick for an early outdoor summer movie before blockbuster season really gets going. The screening will also feature Cruise's real-life airline pilot flight double.

Part of BAM's FilmAfrica series, this documentary traces post-apartheid South Africa through the lens of several young artists working in several different media, including dance, music, and, especially, the infamous painting of president Jacob Zuma.

As part of a series on contemporary Brazilian cinema, the Museum of the Moving Image will be screening She Comes Back on Thursday, a film depicting the life of a black Brazilian family. And the cast is rounded out by the family of director André Novais Oliveira, who are, essentially, playing themselves.

One of the last Brooklyn Night Bazaar parties ever, this particular Saturday night bill is stacked with lynchpins of the Brooklyn DIY scene. Expect appearances from the likes of Perfect Pussy, Bigs Up and Vulture Shit all while you booze cruise for food and goods -- but hurry, before it turns into a BMW dealership. 

Feeling a little grimy? Then check out this show at Palisades starring Mixpak darling Murlo, who's earned critical acclaim for his glammed-up take on UK grime. The support acts are equally as impressive, with London club king Rushmore playing alongside Her Records dudes Kid Antoine and Fraxinus, as well as Teklife footwork duo Tripletrain. Trust us, this show is stacked.

If you were at MORE on Friday at Slake, just hide in the bathroom till tomorrow, because the legendary Ladyfag is throwing another installment of her Holy Mountain parties there. Previous incarnations have included performances by the likes of LE1F and Kiezsa, as well as a NYFW party-crashing by Alexander Wang. 

Support your local feline by joining the cat-themed vendor and artist market at Silent Barn's Meow Day. There will be adoptable kittens along with meow-mosas, zines, clothes and more!(^-人-^)

Spinning an all-vinyl backyard DJ set, join the I Love Vinyl DJs for an afternoon of small plates and sweet backyard sounds to kick off your Memorial Day right. Plus, who knows what will come out of Do or Dine's infamous kitchen? Let's hope there's a foie gras doughnut involved.

Hungry? Feeling kind of gross? Head to Narcissa for a crawfish party, with lots of readily edible food you can shove in your mouth with your hands. It's the American way.

This art fair in Washington Square Park returns for its spring show! There will be art, people-watching from folks wandering around aimlessly, and somewhere nice to sit hung over. (Also art.) And in case you miss one day, it lasts all weekend.

Ha, just kidding -- the Brooklyn Night Bazaar lives on! Just in the form of a new beachy getaway far, far away at the end of a bus line you've never heard of....Either way, it should be a nice way to get your tan on not too far away from home, not to mention listen to some tunes courtesy of electronic whiz Computer Magic, which you can enjoy with your Brooklyn Star fried chicken waffle cone (!)

Things could definitely get really weird at Brooklyn's pre-eminent day rave, hosted by DJ collective The Deep, especially since there will be an early open bar. Want to get out on the water without getting out of the city? Mattress company Casper is, for some reason, hosting a several-hour sailing event, where the ticket buys an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, and a mattress for napping. Proceeds go to Charity Water.

Hell's Kitchen's El Original starts its Tex-Mex Breakfast with extended hours on Memorial Day, providing the flexibility you need for food options on such a crowded day. (And breakfast tacos.)
