You had me at "Saved By the Bell on mangled videocassette." Throughout Spirit Club's "Still Life" video, Zack Morris, Bart and Lisa Simpson, Freddy Krueger, Vanilla Ice and others strobe over masks (skulls, Narcissister?), waves and a hooded henchman playing a guitar. This is the Ludovico Technique updated for children of the George H.W. Bush era, or just an uncannily accurate portrait of my own mind. Either way, the song is all lofi-jangle and woozy harmony -- further proof that Wavves' Nathan Williams, who announced this band last fall and who shares it with his brother Joel and Jeans Wilder, knows his way around a song.
