The new Smashing Pumpkins video for "Being Beige," off the 2014 album Monuments to an Elegy, is exactly what you'd hope for from a band nearing its 30th anniversary: a more mature but no less lively iteration of the sound that made us fall in love with them in the first place. Some might call Corgan's performance in the video "earnestly overstated" but I'd have to disagree; earnest, oh yes, but his voice never rises to the serrated-laserbeam range of his most beloved choruses. Visually, it's like a new-age remake of this Danzig video, which couldn't possibly be a bad thing.
