Grimes first teased out a new track, "Go," at NYC's Governors Ball music fest at the start of the summer before releasing the official studio version a few weeks later. And today, the pulsing, glitch-house track that the singer originally wrote for Rihanna gets an official video. In it, we alternately see fish-eye shots of Grimes dancing in a dark club, close-ups of her getting a piggyback from a masked man in a dystopic-looking wasteland, and panoramic cuts of the singer hanging out in the desert with a sword-wielding Blood Diamonds, who's featured on the song. (Grimes is no stranger to surrealist-looking landscapes -- there's definite shades of the desert scene in the singer's "Genesis" video, which starred our current cover girl Brooke Candy.) Co-directed with Grimes' brother Mac, the singer explains that the video is actually an homage to Dante's Inferno, with her taking on the role of Dante while Blood Diamonds plays Virgil. She says:
It's our take on Dante's inferno. The circles of hell reflect more contemporary issues though. We shot a bunch at the salton sea which is basically an apocalyptic wasteland filled with dead fish because of human carelessness, the bullet hole hallway a la korn freak on a leash etc etc. If you look closely you can find clues. Haha, but in the usual fashion it is also abstract enough to just be a trippy visual accompaniment to the song.Whether "Go" will appear on an upcoming follow-up to 2012's Visions is anybody's guess but here's hoping there's more tracks like this to come.
