Scout Designs Tell Us Where to Drink On Really Good Days and Really Bad Days

In honor of Fashion Week sweeping through the city this week, we asked design duo and creators of gorgeous, nearly-lickable leather objects, Callie Jenschke and Nicki Clendening of Scout Designs to share their favorite watering holes with Papermag. When Jenschke and Clendening aren't cooling their well-traveled heels, they're creating buttery soft  handbags for Moore & Giles, the well-respected leather purveyor who also designs bartender Jim Meehan's urban-safari-like bar bags. Jenschke and Clendening were recently included in luxury good merchant One Kings Lane's Tastemakers of the Year, and as curators of the eye-pleasing, it only makes sense that these savvy aesthetes should also know a thing or two about places to please the taste buds. They break down their recommendations for us below.

Post-Work Prandial: We're always running all over the places, but we're most often in SoHo so our favorite place is Jo's on Elizabeth. We're always guaranteed a spot, the bartenders are great, and they have a happy hour from 5 to 8. They have a great tequila drink called The Sancho we like.

Night on the Town: We're less club girls and more bar ladies so we like to go to a restaurant and hang out at the bar. The bar at Isa in Williamsburg is great. I [Callie] got a Manhattan last time. We just went to Tertulia and had drinks too, which was fun, but our most favorite bar is PDT, and whatever Jim [Meehan] makes us we love. We put our drinks in his hands.

Boozy Lunch: We love lambrusco, so we go to Locanda Verde and sit at the bar. ABC Kitchen is another great place to get lunch and do all the crazy little dishes.

Best Design: Buvette on Grove is warm and cozy. It's a jewel box. Everything about it is perfect -- the marble bar, antique mirrors. Every detail looks loved. Highlands in the West Village has great fabric everywhere -- the upholstery is beautiful. We love their leather bar stools.

Celebratory/Conciliatory: When we have a really good day or a really bad day we go have happy hour drinks in the lounge at Per Se. They're the sweetest people in the whole world. Last time we drank this sparkly pink thing -- a seasonal tangerine fizz or something.
