The first trailer for coming-of-age flick Very Good Girls is out today and in it we see Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen as two best friends hanging out in NYC for one last summer before heading off to college. And by hanging out we mean trying to lose their virginities to, and falling for, the same grungy/hot photographer-cum-ice cream man (because of course he would be a grungy/hot photographer-cum-ice cream man). Their love interest (played by Boyd Holbrook who is Olsen's fiancé IRL) seems to initially prefer the quieter, more cautious Lilly (Fanning) over the more boisterous Gerry (Olsen), which -- not surprisingly -- leads to a rift between the two friends. The film is the feature-length debut of writer/director Naomi Foner (who, fun fact, is also Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal's mom) and, with impressive-looking performances by its stars, seems to add some fresh tracks to a very, very well-worn road. It also gets major bonus points for an impressive supporting cast that includes Demi Moore, Peter Sarsgaard (what else are son-in-laws good for if not to appear as a creep in your movie!), Ellen Barkin, Kiernan Shipka and Richard Dreyfuss.
Very Good Girls will open with a limited release on July 25th
