Although fashion, as Rachel Zoe says, is a cruel mistress, it is an industry that is driven by fantasy, passion and hopeless love. At the Donna Karan F/W 2012 show we caught up with two of the industry's top players, Edward Enninful and Adriana Lima, to see if their romance with fashion was surpassed by romance in real life. Enninful, W's Fashion and Style Director, told PAPERMAG, "I like to think I am a romantic," though he couldn't pinpoint his most romantic moment. Enninful must either make sweeping romantic gestures all the time or else have a terrible memory because his friend immediately cited one instance where he was "waiting for [his] boyfriend in a bath of milk and cheerios."
Perhaps that was all the kindling his mind needed because Enninful soon remembered a time when he was "arriving from Milan once, my house was in darkness and I thought there was nobody home. I walked in and my partner had put rose petals all the way up to the terrace and set up a candle-lit dinner."
For her part, Adriana Lima, the love and lust of many, doesn't consider herself a romantic. "I am more the adventurous type," she confessed with a wink. "I actually got married on Valentine's Day three years ago. I will be spending it with my family and then my husband and I will have dinner. There will be lingerie involved, perfume involved and chocolate involved."
