Tim Coppens: Three Reasons to Love His F/W '12 Collection

You've got to hand it to Belgian-born designer Tim Coppens. With his background in sportswear, this Ecco Domani Fashion Fund award-winner knows how to build a collection, and not just because of the architecture so omnipresent in his latest work. Here's a rundown of the reasons why he's one of our favorites.

Camel coats
If we were to wax philosophically about one part of Coppens' fall/winter 2012 collection, we'd be waxing over the camel mackintoshes and trench coats that he so masterfully crafts. A measured balance of lines and proportion, the triple-breasted camel trench, pictured above, with its belted side and fur collar, might be entering our list of all-time outerwear favorites. There were also his takes on the varsity jacket and bomber jacket, as well as a hooded duffel jacket -- a particularly handsome number in the fall/winter lineup.

Stripes and Gloves
This season, the designer played on themes from the movie Drive, and so, to accent his black, maroon, and tan palette, many of the models wore gloves. There were also striped bursts of color -- neon orange, fluorescent blue and earthy maroon -- gave the collection measure hints of vibrance. The striped theme also carried over full force into the multi-colored harness, worn over a simple white grosgrain shirt.

Jogging Pants
With his mastery of form and functionality, Coppens toys with the notion of athletic-wear in many of the pieces he presented. But what most caught our attention were some of the pants. To be sure, they are jogging pants. But with perforated nappa lamb and rich blue lining, these are anything but run-of-the-mill running wear.
