In 1980, Jimmy Carter was president and CBS had a show called Country People, whose premise was "visiting with country music personalities...at work and at play." For the show's first episode, its very dapper host, the late television personality/California cultural anthropologist Huell Howser, paid a visit to Dolly Parton. Interestingly, he didn't head down to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, but instead visited a "Dollywood in the sky" -- Parton's one-time NYC penthouse where she lived while filming the early-'80s classic, Nine to Five. And if you're hoping to glimpse teal floral wallpaper or hot pink pillows, you'll be disappointed -- Parton's abode was pretty understated. All beige and glass (with the exception of a floral wallpapered bedroom), the pad reminds us of the kind of fancy pied à terre some wealthy Scarsdale banker might own in the '80s rather than a woman who once said, "People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don't know, I'm never there." That aside, the clip is one fascinating time capsule and is also worth watching to see Parton and Huell flirt a little.
