Fans of David Bowie's new album, The Next Day, should appreciate the fact that the album's producer,Tony Visconti, also produced today's oldie-but-goodie. "Ashes to Ashes" came out in 1980 on Bowie's Scary Monsters album and, though it reached #1 in the UK, it only managed to make it up to #101 here in the States. The lyrics mention a Major Tom, a character that first appeared in Bowie's 1969 track "Space Oddity" and would pop-up again in 1995 on the single "Hallo Spaceboy." The clip was directed by Bowie and David Mallet. Also, be sure to note the proof that Bowie is a time-traveler, since he appears in the video playing with an iPad mini. The David Bowie exhibit at London's Victoria & Albert Museum is up until August 11. And, if you want to start your weekend with even more vintage Bowie clips (and, really, who doesn't want to start their weekend with some Bowie?) the singer just released a bunch of old videos on a Vimeo channel in conjunction with The Next Day. Check them out here.
