Over the past few weeks, MoMA PS1 director Klaus Biesenbach has been vocal about the need for rebuilding in the storm-damaged Rockaways. Now, after a successful benefit (DJed by Animal Collective and Chromeo) Friday night at Art Basel Miami Beach, Biesenbach has announced the construction of a geodesic dome, similar to the one in PS1's courtyard, on the Queens peninsula. The dome is sponsored by Volkswagen, and will also be a part of the upcoming exhibition Expo 1: New York. According to an e-mail Biesenbach sent out this morning,
the geodesic dome will not only serve as a relief center throughout the winter months
but also provide architects, artists and scientists a platform to discuss how to rebuild
the vulnerable part of new york after the changed climate conditions,
and provide a meeting point in one of the hardest hit areas in new york.
