Welcome to the sixth edition of our ongoing guide to Art Basel Miami Beach (check out editions I, II, III, IV V and VI HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE respectively). Let's get started:
Andre Saraiva's global nightclub, Le Baron, returns to Miami with a six-night, pop-up edition during AB/MB 2012. This year, however, the nightclub will be elusive as well as exclusive, as they move to a new location each night starting on December 4th. And they'll only reveal the night's location at 6 p.m. daily via twitter.com/lebaronfamily and facebook.com/whereislebaron. We also hear that nightlife-obsessed art aficionados can go to the Free Spirits Sports Cafe (100 21st Street, Miami Beach) from 8 to 10 p.m. to find out the location and there will be a free shuttle from Free Spirits between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. One of the nights is apparently happening in Josh Wagner's new lounge at the Gale South Beach Hotel (1690 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach).
Visionaire, Net-a-Porter and Mr. Porter will open a "FREE STORE" in the new Miami Beach SLS Hotel (1701 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach) on Thursday, December 6th. The store is an interactive art installation by Jonathan Horowitz and "customers" are invited to bring in "stuff you can't use and take stuff away that you can." Personal items that could be yours for the taking, will be provided by everyone from Michael Stipe to Maurizio Cattelan to Marilyn Minter. The Royal Palm (1545 Collins Avenue, South Beach)
has been re-born as a new member of the James group of hotels. They are
jumping right into the Art Basel fray with an exclusive afterparty
following the opening of the new controversial fair on the beach, UNTITLED, on
December 3 and they're also hosting this year's official AB/MB closing
party on Sunday, December 9. The hotel houses the Miami branch of New
York's popular Catch restaurant and another spot called Florida Cookery.
It's hard to believe, but this year Conde Nast is
participating in AB/MB for the first time. They'll be exhibiting a
selection of 28 photos from their new publication Coming Into Fashion: A
Century of Photography at Conde Nast inside the Miami Beach Convention
Center's Art Collector's Lounge.

The only Miami Beach hotel with a permanent
collection of contemporary art, The Sagamore (1671 Collins Avenue, Miami
Beach) hosts a show called "Fundamental" that features selections from
their Cricket Taplin Collection and includes works by Diane Arbus,
Walker Evans, Mike & Doug Starn, and Michele Oka Donner. They're
also hosting their annual Art Basel Brunch on Saturday, December 8.
If you feel like having a beer while checking out "The Factory Art Show" (101 NW 24th Street, Miami), you're in luck. The street-art-centric fair will also include a Basel Biergarten serving top craft beers from Florida breweries plus a "charcuterie house featuring candied bacon and other other delicious artisan smoked meats." It opens on Thursday, December 6, from 2 to 11 p.m.
Local gallerist Oliver Sanchez is hosting what might be the AB/MB show with the longest title: "100 Years of Artitude 1913 - 2013 Pataphysics for Dummies: Where Contradiction Meets Exception." Sanchez adds: "It's a centennial celebration of the artistic development of craft and culture." Sounds cool, no? The installation will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Swampspace Gallery (150 NE 42nd Street, Miami) and if you're heading down early, there's an opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. on December 1.
Moncler is celebrating their 60th anniversary with a big VIP-only party on Friday, plus they're opening a new store in the Bal Harbour Shops (9700 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach). Pharrell Williams will be in the store at 6 p.m. on December 8 to sign copies of his book Pharrell: Places and Spaces I've Been.
New York's Jonathan LeVine Gallery will present the
world premier of Art 4 Space, a documentary film about French artist
Invader and his recent launch of one of his iconic mosaics into outer
space. The film is being screened in partnership with the Miami
International Film Festival at the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Road,
Miami Beach) on December 6.
