London, Singapore and Staten Island may seem like strange bedfellows but pretty soon NYC's oft-underappreciated borough will be home to a massive ferris wheel along the likes of the
London Eye or the
Singapore Flyer -- in fact, it'll be bigger than both! The same team behind the London Eye,
Starneth, will be responsible for the construction of the 625-foot tall ride -- soon to be known as
The New York Wheel -- that will contain 36 capsules carrying up to forty people each (or 1,440 people per cycle). We also hear the wheel will anchor a huge space in St. George that includes a 350,000 square-foot outlet mall and hotel and will cost $230 million clams (uh, who's paying for that?). Construction is set to begin in 2014 with the goal of sending the first riders up into the Staten Island clouds by 2015. Pretty cool.
